Jewel Mollet

SDSU Chapter

By: Ixchel Urbano, SDSU Chapter Member

Meet Jewel Mollet, a rising senior at San Diego State University and Secretary for her Chapter of WSS, along with Marketing Intern for Nationals! Jewel is currently working on her Bachelor of Science as a double major in Kinesiology and Biology. She is very involved on her campus and maintains excellent academic status! Jewel hopes to become a pediatrician in the near future and help eliminate gaps in the healthcare system. Jewel has learned a lot from her time in WSS, and her wonderful outlook on life has helped her make a difference on her campus.

Jewel joined WSS her freshman year of college. She met our Founder and CEO Holly Norman along with Secretary Lindsey Allen, and immediately fell in love with their passion for advocating for women in STEM. As a freshman she was nervous for her journey ahead as a STEM major; however, she decided to pour her heart into WSS because she was confident whatever she put into the organization was what she would get out. WSS has since been a large part of her college experience, and she is happy to have had the opportunity to be a part of the founding Chapter!

As Jewel reflects on her three years of involvement in WSS, she is amazed by how much her outlook on being a woman in STEM has changed. At the start of college, Jewel was often fearful that pursuing a major in the sciences was setting herself up on a wrong or seemingly hopeless path. However, once joining WSS she found her academic road enjoyable because of the many compassionate, driven women she was surrounded by. Jewel no longer felt as if she was someone who was trying to beat the odds, but rather as a woman who had the potential to make a large impact on her community.

One experience provided by WSS that resonated with Jewel was attending the Inspiring Women’s Leaders Conference in Florida. She recalled how the conference allowed her to view negative stigmas towards professional women in STEM as moments of reassurance that she was pushing the boundaries and becoming a better scientist and leader.

Outside of WSS, Jewel is a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Through dedication and hard work in her academics she achieved a position on the executive board of Order of Omega, a Greek honor society. Jewel is also involved in many activities that primarily focus on those in need. These activities include volunteering her time for a Crisis Text Line, fundraising for Relay for Life and assisting people at the Blind Community Center. She has also spent time pursuing her scientific interests as a research assistant in a lab. All of Jewel’s extracurriculars have been essential in her journey to success, and have helped her make an impact on campus. They have shown her that when she is passionate about a cause and dedicates her time, she will always have positive experiences, and she will take that mentality with her on to future endeavors!

Jewel Mollet is an incredibly driven, kind, intelligent woman who has definitely made her mark on San Diego State University. As an aspiring physician, she is determined to spend her life helping others while advocating for the issues she believes need fixing along the way. WSS is honored to have been a part of her journey thus far and is excited to see all Jewel will accomplish in her future!
